The Importance of Passion in Education

As the famous 19 th Century German philosopher Friedrich Neitzsche once said, “Do not just live, live with passion.” I would like to change this quote to replace the word “live” with “teach.” After this adjustment, the above quote states nicely the topic of my article: “Do not just teach, teach with passion.” When you think of the individuals in your life who have had the most influence, who comes to your mind? Think about them, stack them up. Tallest to shortest, oldest to youngest, whatever your fancy may be. They are the people who taught you something about life. How did they do that? What was it about them that made you grab a double glance, pull up a chair, ponder awhile? The person who first comes to my mind does not do so because she’s attractive or because she’s witty. She comes to my mind first because of the way she treats people. When she sees people, she sees them as human beings with loves and dreams and troubles. I look up to her and wish to emulate her beca

"What? Is this a fashion show?" Why Women Really get Ready in the Morning

This morning on the way to church, I was walking behind some really pretty girls. They had dressed nice with good hair and nylons/tights of different colors and designs. Shoes, hair, make-up, skirts. A boy passed and said to his friend, "What? Is this a fashion show?"   All I have to say to that, boy, is," Why yes, yes it is." Ever wonder why exactly women get ready? Look quite so nice? It ain't for you boys! Its TOTALLY for each other! Life is a competition. Every aspect of it. It is nice to dress up for boys but it's so you will think WE look better than THAT other Girl. Basically, girls get ready, put on crap loads of make-up so other girls will look, notice, compliment, and LOSE. Mwahahaha!   Now you know one of the secrets of girlhood. Feel better boy on the sidewalk? P.S. to Girls, guys don't care as much as you think. All that make-up you put on? He'd rather not see all the stuff on your eyes and lips. Natural is pretty too.

First Impressions and mean people

Today I read a book in my school bookstore about courtship. One topic it discussed was first impressions. You can never take back a first impression. It will dictate how others view, treat, and act around you. I'm been thinking about this especially as a girl said to me, "Oh, you're Melissa right? The crotchety rude one?" ... What??? It takes just a quick glance, approximately three seconds, for someone to evaluate you when you meet for the first time. In this short time, the other person forms an opinion about you based on your appearance, your body language, your demeanor, your mannerisms, and how you are dressed. In her best selling book, "How To Make Anyone Fall In Love With You." Leil Lowndes says, "You never get a second chance at love at first sight." Because first impression are formed almost instantly the moment you set eyes on a person. Three seconds. You hit three seconds just reading three seconds! Leil says you should look awe

Book recommendations

All the books I love could never in a million years be decided down to the small number of 5 but these are all pretty good :) Daughter of the Forest- Juliet Marillier. This book is a play on the fairytale of the sixth swans or whatever it's called. Basically she's the seventh daughterof the seventh daughter. Her mother is dead, her father is bewitched and remarries. The woman curses her and her brothers to turn them to swans but Sorcha is protected so she doesn't turn. In order to turn her brothers back she has to make shirts for them out of a prickly plant that ruins her hands and she has been told that if she speaks, the shirts won't work. So she has a deadline to accomplish her mission, brothers to save, a man to fall in love with, a contending country to impress and she can't speak. Great book. Warning though, there's a small part after her brothers are changed and she has run away that she gets attacked and raped I think. I can't remember how detai

Mr. President, Barack Obama

Today while visiting the grocery store, I happened to pick up a book about the President of the United States of America. Written by a man who supposedly has followed all of the President's actions politically including relations with Haiti, his father's birth place, his owning a large home with his wife, his supposed disagreement with the second amendment. I didn't read it. I do have a comment on it though. He is our president. George W. Bush was our president before that. There is a billboard in Wyoming of George W. Bush saying, "Miss me yet?" ... I find this very disagreeable. Obama is a man just like any other man except he had the (mis)fortune of being elected our president. No matter how that happened, it did happen. Part of being an American is U.S. Pride - something currently very evident in the Olympics. I think the Olympics was created to show pride for countries, to show who is the best without real violence. United States Pride: a part of every home. P
